The Conservative MP for Copeland has resumed talks with industry officials in support of the nuclear new build at Moorside.
Today, Trudy Harrison met with North West Coast Connections Project Manager, Robert Powell, Regional External Affairs Manager, Faye Scullion and Lands Officer, Deborah Turner for an update on progress of the North West Coast Connections project.
The proposed project would connect west Cumbria, Carlisle and the Furness peninsula to ensure strong and adequate electricity supplies for Moorside and our coastal towns.
NuGen is currently undertaking a strategic review of Moorside’s ownership and technology vendor.
Mr Powell explained that in light of the review, National Grid has paused work on the NWCC project to take the time to understand NuGen’s programme and make sure the projects are aligned. He stressed that National Grid will continue to work closely with NuGen moving forward.
Trudy Harrison MP, said: “I am absolutely committed to supporting the delivery of Moorside which will benefit the whole constituency by securing jobs, energy and a stronger economy.
“Earlier this week I also met with the chairman of Friends of the Lake District, John Entwistle OBE to discuss Moorside and the impacts on the environment and I was pleased to hear that NWCC are working closely with members of FoLD and Moorside.
“I have already met with the Rt Honourable Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Greg Clarke who reiterated this Government’s commitment towards delivering Moorside and I will continue to work with ministers, NuGen and National Grid to ensure we see this through.”
