Trudy Harrison is calling for cross party collaboration in a bid to help secure major investment for Cumbria.
Speaking at the Conservative Group Away Day in Penrith on Friday, Trudy Harrison MP spoke about her journey into politics before focusing on priorities for Cumbria.
Mrs Harrison was joined on a panel by Leader of the Cumbria Conservative Group, James Airey, Cumbria’s police and crime commissioner, Peter McCall, MEP for the North West, Sajjad Karim, and Deputy Chairman of the Local Government Association, Sean Anstree.
The meeting focused around economic development and growth and looked at how to explore future opportunities to help drive Cumbria forward.
Mrs Harrison, said: “To truly achieve the very best for Cumbria, each of the area’s MPs and councillors will be best placed working together as ‘One Cumbria’. We need to stick together to ensure Cumbria becomes a key player in future major investments including the Northern Powerhouse.
“The only P I am interested in is progress for Cumbria.”
Cumbria Conservative Group Leader, cllr James Airey, said: “As Leader of the Cumbria County Council Conservative Group I fully endorse Trudy’s call for all political parties to collaborate in order to put our County’s interests first. By working together locally we can make sure that our voices are heard at a National level.
“We need to ensure that Cumbria isn’t left behind our priorities are brought to the table so that our great County can thrive and secure investment. It’s time to get on with the job at hand which is to represent and get the best deal for our Cumbrian communities.”
