FLOODS Minister Therese Coffey has championed Copeland’s Conservative candidate as a ‘great local champion’ who would stand up for her community in Parliament
Trudy knows how floods can wreak havoc on families, which is why she invited the minister to meet with the Above Derwent and Keswick Flood Action Groups to see what defences have been put in place and discuss work that still needs to be done.
The mother of four, who was forced out of her family home several years ago, said:
“I know first-hand the destruction floods can cause for families as our home was hit causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
“As part of my six-point plan for Copeland I have pledged to get more investment to prevent flooding in the future and have started a petition to show local support.
“If elected as the new Conservative MP for Copeland I would be able to work with government to get the improvements our local area wants, and my meeting with the Flooding Minister is a big step towards this.”
Speaking after meeting the community action groups in Keswick, Miss Coffey, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said she believed Trudy would be a dynamic Member of Parliament to stand up for the people of Copeland.
She said: “What I’m hearing from people in Copeland is that they need an MP who is going to champion them in Parliament, someone who knows the issues that they face.
“Trudy is a fantastic candidate and as an MP would be someone who would be there for everyone across the whole constituency.”
