Government Broadband Minister Matt Hancock has championed Trudy Harrison in her drive to get the whole of Copeland connected.
As part of her six-point plan for the constituency, Trudy, the Conservative candidate in the Copeland by-election, wants to see the whole of West Cumbria enjoying super-fast broadband.
She said: “I spent over 10 years campaigning for superfast broadband in my community in Bootle and the surrounding area.
“I understand the difference better connection speeds can make to people’s lives, especially to local businesses, and know we still need a faster service across parts of Copeland and rural Cumbria.
“If elected I aim to work with BT and the Government to deliver for homes and businesses right across West Cumbria, just like I did in Bootle.”
To support her campaign, Trudy invited Digital and Culture Minister Matt Hancock along to the coastal village of Ravenglass where households, businesses and tourist destinations, such as the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, have directly benefited from the introduction of superfast broadband.
Current plans mean that by March next year, 92% of properties in Copeland will have access to superfast broadband.
Matt Hancock MP said: "Trudy wasted no time in asking me to come to Copeland to find out about her campaign to get the whole of Copeland connected.
“She made clear how important superfast broadband is, especially in this part of Cumbria, and how vital it is for the final 8% to get connected.
“Trudy will be a strong local voice and I look forward to working with her to get Copeland connected."
