Trudy Harrison joined hundreds of people in typical Cumbria weather for a local charity’s 30th anniversary fundraiser walk in Whitehaven.
Trudy joined more than 500 people in the pouring rain for Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s annual Moonlight Memories Walk.
Setting off at 10pm from Tesco in Whitehaven, the walkers took on a six-mile route with the last walkers arriving back at base at around 1am.
Together, the walkers have raised a fantastic amount for the West Cumbrian based charity – which will help them continue to provide its outstanding care, supporting patients, carers and family members affected by a life-limiting illness.
Trudy said: “I was absolutely delighted to take part in this year’s 30th anniversary Moonlight Memories walk for Hospice at Home West Cumbria. It was clear throughout the night that the typical Cumbrian weather wasn’t going to dampen anyone’s sprits and I commend the efforts of everyone who took part to help raise funds and awareness as well as the exceptionally hard work of all volunteers and staff who make this wonderful event happen year after year.”
Lorraine Dixon, Head of Care and Quality, took part and walked the six-mile route brightly dressed, to celebrate this year’s 80’s theme.
Lorraine said “Thank you to all who came to our Moonlight Memories Walk. It’s been a fantastic evening with a great atmosphere. It’s been so inspirational to see so many people here. It’s been absolutely wonderful. I just want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone involved this evening – we couldn’t do it without you”.
A team of over 100 volunteers helped to make the evening a huge success.
Linda Hewitt, CEO for HHWC said “Friday night was amazing and not even the true Cumbrian weather could dampen the spirits of our fantastic walkers; I would like to thank each and every one of them for their energy and enthusiasm. Nights like that don’t just happen and everyone involved, too numerous to mention, did a brilliant job. The important thing now is for the walkers to get their sponsor money to us as soon as they are able so we can announce what I am sure will be a superb grand total. Hospice at Home West Cumbria is very proud to be the only providers of adult Hospice care across our area, bringing much needed nursing care and support to people in their own homes during very difficult times.
“I also want to say thank you to this evening’s main sponsors – Morgan Sindall and Coombe & Sharpe Landscaping – for being so generous.”
